Produced by BASE Entertainment, the movie will be available in 190 countries with subtitles in 17 languages, including English, Thai, Japanese and French.

“The comedy drama will bring our members around the world closer to Indonesia through its story. We will continue to collaborate with Indonesian filmmakers and watch more quality stories from the country,” Netflix director of content for SEA and New Zealand Myleeta Aga said in a statement.

Guru-Guru Gokil marks a debut for actress Dian Sastrowardoyo as a producer. Directed by Sammaria Sari Simanjuntak, the movie tells the story of Taat Pribadi (Gading Marten), who collaborates with his coworkers to retrieve their stolen salary, taken by a dangerous thief. Along the way, Taat finds friendship and love and makes peace with his past.

Dian, who also acts in the movie, said: “It is an honor for Guru-Guru Gokil to become a Netflix Original movie. I’m also excited to see how the stories of Indonesian teachers will touch the hearts of viewers around the world and our fans in Indonesia.”

The cast also features Asri Welas, Faradina Mufti, Boris Bokir, Ibnu Jamil, Kevin Ardilova, and Shakira Jasmine.

In May, BASE Entertainment released an audio series that serves as a preview to the movie. The audio series tells the story of Taat and was released via iRadio Network in six cities, namely Jakarta, Bandung in West Java, Yogyakarta, Makassar in South Sulawesi, Banjarmasin in South Kalimantan and Medan in North Sumatra.

Eight episodes are available in the audio series, narrating Taat’s story as a teacher trying to survive in a big city.

The audio series features actors Gading Martin, Dian Sastrowardoyo, Arswendy Bening Swara, Faradina Mufti and Boris Bokir, among others. All actors recorded their parts at their homes while communicating via Zoom. (wng)
