Google LLC will allow its employees around the world to work from home until July 2021, altering an earlier plan to resume office work from next January amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, US media said Monday.
Most of the nearly 200,000 workers across Google's parent company Alphabet Inc., including both full-time and temporary employees, will reportedly be affected by the move.
Among US IT giants, Amazon.com Inc. and Apple Inc. are planning to have their workers return to offices in January. Twitter Inc., on the other hand, has said it will allow employees to work from home permanently if they like.
The number of coronavirus infections worldwide has topped 15 million with the United States being the hardest-hit country with over 4 million cases, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University.
