One Direction has seen its viewership and subscribers explode on both YouTube and YouTube Music on its 10th anniversary.
The 10th anniversary of British boy band One Direction has caused an explosion of interest on its YouTube channel.
Even though the band has been on hiatus since 2015, One Direction saw a 468 percent increase in subscribers on its YouTube Music channel on July 23, the date of its anniversary, reported variety.com.
One Direction premiered the “10 Years of One Direction” on its official YouTube channel on the same date. The retrospective, a video clocking in at just under 5 minutes and the first video uploaded to the channel since 2016, has garnered more than 15 million views since its premiere.
In addition to the 10-year anniversary special, the band also uploaded 4K music videos of their hits, including “What Makes You Beautiful”, “Steal My Girl” and “History”.

The group was formed by judge Simon Cowell in 2010 during the seventh edition of The X Factor UK, to finish third and sign up with Cowell’s record label, Syco Records.
Since it was formed, One Direction became established as one of the most impactful and profitable musical groups of the 2010s.
Over a span of five years until the band broke up, One Direction released five albums, topped the major charts and toured sold-out concerts around the world.
In March 2015, member Zayn Malik became the first to leave the group, citing his reason as wanting "to live a normal life". Then the band announced a hiatus in 2016, which allowed the remaining members – Niall Horan, Liam Payne, Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson – to pursue solo projects.
By 2020, One Direction had sold 70 million records worldwide. (gis/wng)
