A drive-in cinema called Drive-In Senja (Sunset Drive-In) has been set up in the North Parking Lot of the mall, with film screenings held since Aug. 1.
“We started this as [as we recognized] there is a lot of boredom and we wanted to do something new in the time of the pandemic. We have tried to make it safe and comfortable,” Ashram Shahrivar, cofounder of Drive-In Senja, said as quoted by kompas.com.
A wide range of movies from the 1970s to the 1990s and from various genres, including horror and adventure, are being screened at the drive-in.
To watch the movies at Sunset Drive-In, visitors just need to turn up in their car and turn on their radio to receive the audio.
Cars will be sprayed with disinfectant before entering the drive-in area and are spaced 1 meter apart. Visitors are also required to use hand sanitizer, don face masks and have their body temperatures checked prior to entering the parking lot.
Tickets for the experience are bundled with snacks, with prices starting from Rp 200,000 (US$13.58) for two people in one car with two popcorn packages. For Rp 460,000, four people in a car will get four premium burgers.
The drive-in cinema is still being trialed with an evaluation to be made on whether it becomes a permanent fixture. (gis/wng)
