IDN Pictures has announced its debut project: the movie adaptation of Balada Si Roy (The Ballad of Roy), a popular novel series in the '80s-'90s.
alada Si Roy (The Ballad of Roy), which was popular among young readers in the 1980s and 1990s, is to be adapted into a film in 2021 by technology-based film company IDN Pictures.
The novel series by writer Gol A Gong tells the life of teen heartthrob Roy in stories filled with romance, friendship, conflict and sacrifice. It has sold over 300,000 copies to date.
Now in preproduction, the film adaptation is to be helmed by director Fajar Nugros, with producer Susanti Dewi and screenwriter Salman Aristo.
IDN Media CEO Winston Utomo said in a statement that the film adaptation of Balada Si Roy would be the inaugural project of IDN Pictures since the company was launched in May.
“Aside from supporting the Indonesian film industry, this movie aims to inspire and deliver positive messages, especially [to] millennials and Generation Z, through its storyline, characters and messages,” he said.
With the COVID-19 health crisis still continuing unabated, Fajar said he was optimistic about Balada Si Roy, due to Indonesians’ love of movies.
“Hopefully, fans of the series can celebrate Roy’s ups and downs in a different medium,” he said.
IDN Pictures was launched on May 12, 2020, when multiplatform media company IDN Media acquired independent film company Demi Istri Production, founded in 2013 by Fajar and Susanti. (wir/wng)
