EMARANG: Andaryoko Wisnuprabu, who sparked media attention when he claimed he was the famed independence rebellion leader Supriyadi, died Wednesday at the age of 89.
This file photo shows Andaryoko Wisnuprabu shortly after his book launch in 2008.
In August 2008, Andaryoko revealed to historian Baskara T Wardaya from Yogyakarta's Sanata Dharma University that he was in fact Supriyadi, a national hero who went missing after an independence uprising in February 1945.
Baskara published this admission in a book titled Mencari Supriyadi (In Search of Supriyadi).
Baskara told The Jakarta Post on Thursday that Andaryoko's family informed him the funeral would take place Thursday afternoon.
Supriyadi led troops from Pembela Tanah Air (PETA) in a revolt against Japanese troops in Blitar, East Java, on Feb. 14, 1945. He was reported missing after the incident.
