ATARAM: By August this year, the West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) police had foiled several human trafficking plots and prevented 50 women from being shipped to Bali from East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), an official has said.
Head of the social service division of the NTB Social, Population and Civil Registration Agency, T. Wismaningsih, said the office had assisted the victims, mostly young women, and returned many to their homes.
Wirdaningsih said currently the office was providing shelter for eight women who were found at a Mandalika bus terminal in Mataram, NTB.
"The women, residents from a south-west Sumba regency, NTT, were on their way to Bali. They did not have ID cards. They were suspected of being victims of human trafficking," she told The Jakarta Post on Thursday.
She said the victims said they were destined for work at a restaurant in Denpasar.
