olice have threatened to forcibly summon East Lampung regent Satono after he failed for questioning about a corruption case involving the BPR Tripanca Setiadana bank.
Satono, also chairman of the regency chapter of the Democratic Party, defied a police summons on Saturday, citing he was still mourning the death of his mother.
The regent is currently accused of being involved in the graft case after transferring Rp 119 billion from the East Lampung administration budget to the BPR Tripanca Setiandana bank.
Under the regulations issued by the Home Affairs Ministry, budget funds belonging to regional administrations must be deposited at local state banks.
The Lampung Police said on Thursday that Satono had been summoned for questioning next week, after they obtained permission from President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono last month.
"We are giving him until next week. Should he fail to turn up three times in a row, we will force him to come in for questioning," said Lampung Police chief of detective Sr. Comr. Darmawan Sutawijaya.
Satono's lawyer Sopian Sitepu confirmed that his client had not heeded the first police summons as he was still mourning his mother's death.
"We are confident that Pak Satono will comply with the next summons," Sopian said.
An audit report from the Lampung financial and development control body (BPKP) shows that the corruption case involving BPR Tripanca Setiadana bank caused Rp 119 billion in state losses - Rp 107 billion from the East Lampung's budget and an additional Rp 12 billion in accrued interest.
The police used the BPKP report as evidence to name Satono a suspect in the case.
The regent is also accused of accepting Rp 10.5 billion in kickbacks from the same bank after he put the state money there.
Meanwhile, prosecutors handed over the case of Probo Yulastoro, the regent of Cilacap, Central Java, to the regency's district court on Thursday for an immediate trial.
The Cilacal prosecutor's office also submitted the dossier of the local administration's finance head Fajar Subekti to the court.
Both Probo and Fajar as well Cilacap administration secretary Suprihono - and several other top local officials - have been detained for their involvement in a number of corruption cases, allegedly embezzling up to Rp 21.8 billion from the administration's budget between 2004 and 2008.
