W

ith regard to the article "Overseas aid for quake victims withheld at Medan airport" dated Oct. 8, ASB would like to point out that we were neither contacted nor asked for any opinion concerning the article or its factual basis.

It was not the case that ASB medical supplies were unduly delayed at customs in Medan. Due procedure was followed and the arrival of the medical items coincided with the arrival of ASB's medical team in Padang on Oct. 7, 2009 as scheduled.

ASB found government officials from the customs office in Medan, the Ministry of Health and the Disaster Management Board (BNPB) to be both concerned and supportive in all dealings with regard to the West Sumatra earthquake response. ASB would like to thank the Indonesian government for its ongoing support.
