AKARTA: Indonesian visitors to Australia have surpassed 100,000 for the year ending September 2009, official statistics show.
This is the first time in 10 years the Australian Bureau of Statistics has recorded 100,000 Indonesian tourists in Australia over a 12 month period.
Australian Ambassador to Indonesia Bill Farmer welcomed the increase. He also said so far this year, more than 400,000 Australians have visited Indonesia - the highest number on record.
"I am pleased to see the relationship between the two countries growing stronger and more Indonesians are traveling to Australia," Farmer said.
The month of September alone experienced a 55 percent increase in arrivals to Australia - 16,400 Indonesians - compared to the previous year.
