Your comments on President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono’s statements on recent regional electoral violence

The leaders, especially legislators, provide bad examples. What the government needs is effective law enforcement.

President Yudhoyono has expressed concern over frequent riots in regional elections and hard-line Islamic attacks on churches and followers of different interpretations of Islam.
There is no use in the president continuing to express concern until he finishes his term in 2014. As Indonesia’s democratically elected chief executive, Yudhoyono should uphold the principles of Pancasila and take strong action to solve these problems.

Gang riots are caused by thugs willing to accept political money for destructive action.
There are more thugs than we know, so we should expect more rioting, burning, sabotage and destructive actions detrimental to public welfare. Who must stop them? An independent Police Force?
Local poll violence looks more like vindictive action of political parties having lost in the national election. When will we ever learn to run a country together?

This violence has been sparked by inconsistent law enforcement. There are laws to prevent such violence, but police are either lazy or just don’t know the law.
