OGYAKARTA: Hotels in Yogyakarta are offering free snacks to break the Islamic fast and free predawn meals throughout the Ramadan fasting month, an official says.
Secretary of the Yogyakarta chapter of the Indonesian Hotels and Restaurants Association (PHRI), Deddy Pranowo Eryono, said the hotels would also offer a special discount of between 10 and 30 percent for non-Muslims.
He said the special offer is provided in an attempt to attract more guests to stay longer in Yogyakarta during Ramadan.
“Every fasting month the hotels also ‘fast’ because we usually receive very few guests. We have all agreed to remain optimistic by offering additional facilities,” he said.
He said past experience showed that during Ramadan the average occupancy rate usually fell to below 40 percent. The rest of the year, the rate stood at between 70 and 80 percent occupancy.
He said the offers would be available in all 230 PHRI-member hotels in the province. — JP
