ULONPROGO, Yogyakarta: Members of the Penyu Abadi conservation group released 127 baby sea turtles on Trisik Beach in Kulonprogo, Central Java, on Monday.
The group had nurtured turtle eggs found along the beach.
“Last year we successfully nurtured 18 nests containing 125 turtle eggs,” Penyu Abadi group leader Jaka Samudra said.
Each year, since the group was first set up in 2004, it invited schools, from kindergarten to universities, to help raising awareness on the need to protect environment.
“But this time around, we don’t invite any school because the release is held during the fasting month of Ramadan,”Jaka said. — JP
