JAKARTA: Indonesian Military (TNI) members and Defense Ministry officials will soon receive a retroactive salary increase.
The House of Representatives approved last week a 40 percent salary increase for about 460,000 military and defense personnel retroactive to July, Defense Minister Purnomo Yusgiantoro said.
“The House has approved it, so now we’re only waiting for the Finance Ministry to follow-up the decision and disburse the funds. I’ve heard that the President has signed the decree,” Purnomo said after a meeting at the Vice President’s office.
TNI members of all ranks would receive the pay raise, including junior enlisted members who currently receive Rp 1.1 million (approximately US$122) a month, he said.
“We expect that they will improve their performance with the salary increase, that there will be no more misuse of funds, that they will work more efficiently and improve their service to the public.” — JP
