ersipura Jayapura was crowned winner of the 2010-2011 Indonesian Super League after a draw final match against Semen Padang of West Sumatra at Mandala Jayapura stadium on Sunday night.

Known as the black pearl from the eastern part of Indonesia, Persipura gained an overall 60 points (17 winnings of 28 matches with 63 goals) in the lead to be crowned the winner of the national soccer body league.

Persipura was quite hard to catch by Arema Indonesia and Persija Jakarta, which shared 52 points in collection. The victory means Persipura stole back its crown after it was taken by Arema last season.

Persipura’s captain Boas Solossa received the trophy from the Indonesian League Body (BLI) shortly after the final game ended. Thousands of fireworks lit up while thousands of fans cheered for their heroes.

Local organizational officer Fachrudin Passolo said a bigger party would be hosted during the official crowning ceremony on June 29.

“The final celebration will be conducted after a starwars-match at Mandala stadium,” Fachrudin said on Sunday night as quoted by Antara.

Ian Kabes of Persipura first sealed the match for his team’s glory in the 54th minute during Sunday’s game. In reply, Vendry Mofu of Semen Padang tried to close the gap by scoring to make 1-1 in the 86th.

On the same day, Arema crushed Bontang FC 8-0 at its home ground, Kanjuruhan Stadium, in Malang, East Java, to earn second-place, while Persija took third place after winning 3-0 against PSPS Pekanbaru at Gelora Bung Karno stadium in Central Jakarta.

Eight goals were contributed by Talaohu Abdul Mushafry, Yongky Ariwibowo, Ahmad Amiruddin, Roman Chmelo and Achmad Bustami. Yongky scored a hat trick during the bout.

Amid similarity in point collection, Arema deserved second placing as it managed to widen the goal gap by 27, while Persija only managed to keep a 24 goal difference.

Despite the losing, Persija’s coach Rahmad Darmawan, who is also the national team coach, said he was grateful toward the overall achievement.

“We still have a chance at the AFC [Asian Football Confederation] Cup,” said Rahmad as quoted by kompas.com.

Rahmad admitted his team’s flaws saying there were too many home ground losses. “[The losings] are purely mistakes we have made. This is why I don’t comment on other matches.”
