akarta Governor Joko "Jokowi" Widodo has told Jakarta residents not to participate on convoys around the city on the eve of Idul Fitri, locally known as takbiran (A very loud public parade giving praise and ending the final day of Ramadhan), and celebrate it at local mosques instead.

He added that the city administration would not hold special events during takbiran because people should spend the evening by praying to God.

He told the city police to take actions on citizens participating on convoys, playing firecrackers or participating in illegal street races during the evening.

Separately, city police spokesman Sr. Comr. Rikwanto said his institution already instructed precinct police stations to coordinate with city administration officials to warn citizens against participating in road convoys.

"In the previous years, such convoys could cause traffic accidents that claim lives," he said.

He said that his institution would deploy 265 personnel to guard the National Monument (Monas) square and 181 personnel to guard the Hotel Indonesia traffic circle during takbiran.
