ozens of environmental activists held a feast on Sunday to celebrate the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) arresting Bandung Mayor Dada Rosada.
Dada, who has been widely criticized for issuing building permits, which claimed to not be environmentally friendly, was arrested in a bribery case related to the city administration's social aid funds.
Serving roasted goat and cone rice, the event was titled "Track Record and Reflection of 10 Years Fighting Against a Corrupt Regime" at the office of West Java chapter of the Indonesian Environmental Forum (Walhi) in Bandung.
West Java Walhi chairman, Dadan Ramdhan, said that the activists' struggle against Dada's corrupt regime should get some appreciation, especially since we have been fighting since 2003. "We want to thank all those who defended the Bandung Basin from being destroyed," he said.
Dadan said during Dada's mayorship, there were many problematic projects in the city, such as commercial development in the Punclut water catchment area, the loss of various heritage buildings and the controversial construction of the waste-to-energy powerplant.
Meanwhile, Taufan Suranto of the Tatar Sunda Environmental and Forestry Council said the event was more than a mere culinary feast because he had prepared a video on how the activists had fought various environmental issues such as commercial development in northern Bandung, waste management and the building of hotels that were not environmentally sustainable.
He said that the event was also a warning for newly elected Mayor Ridwan Kamil and Vice Mayor Oded M. Dahnial.
