he National Police Commission (Kompolnas) has asserted that Vanny Rosyanne, former girlfriend of drug lord Freddy Budiman, is not a whistle-blower.
Commission member M. Nasser said that although Vanny had disclosed information about the manufacture of crystal methamphetamine and the presence of a rentable room for sexual activities in Cipinang Penitentiary, this did not make the adult magazine model a whistle-blower.
'Vanny's arrest was based purely on people's information. The information she previously submitted [on the crystal meth factory and the sex room at Cipinang prion] was not related to her arrest,' Nasser told journalists on Monday at the National Police headquarters, as quoted by tempo.co.
In July, Vanny came under the media spotlight after, via televised testimony, she claimed that she had been permitted to hold a drug party and even have sex with Freddy, who was sentenced to the death penalty on July 15, in one of rooms of the prison's officials.
Vanny claimed they had been able to do so after she paid Rp 50 million (US$4,400) in cash to a prison officer.
'The police have yet to launch an investigation into Vanny's testimony,' said Nasser.
National Police narcotics chief Brig. Gen. Arman Depari said the police had never questioned Vanny concerning her testimony, which led to the dismissal of Cipinang prison warden Thurman Hutapea.
Nasser's statement contradicts a recent statement by lawmaker Didi Irawadi Syamsuddin, who considered Vanny a whistle-blower for having the courage to reveal the illicit practices going on in the prison. Didi even called on the Witness and Victims Protection Agency (LPSK) to protect Vanny for what she had done. (hrl/ebf)
