The APEC Summit organizing committee said that US President Barack Obama was still a confirmed attendee of the international meeting.
'As of today, his attendance is still confirmed,' said committee vice chairman Chairul Tanjung after visiting the media center at the Bali Nusa Dua Convention Center (BNDCC), on Wednesday, as quoted by Antara news agency.
As reported earlier, Obama had canceled the Malaysian leg of his four-nation tour, which aims to boost US economic ties with Asia, due to the partial U S government shutdown.
Chairul said the Foreign Ministry, the US Embassy in Jakarta and US Secret Service officials all confirmed Obama attendance would still be expected.
Nevertheless, he said, the APEC Summit organizing committee would monitor the US president's arrival schedule. Obama is scheduled to arrive in Bali, on Saturday, to attend the APEC Summit.
For the first time in nearly two decades, the US government staggered to a partial shutdown on Monday at midnight after congressional Republicans stubbornly demanded changes to the nation's health care law ' known as Obama Care, The Associated Press reported. (ebf)
