AKARTA: The Indonesian Swimming Association (PRSI) is set to challenge the two-year ban imposed by the International Swimming Federation (FINA) on swimmers Indra Gunawan and Guntur Pratama Putra, who were involved in doping scandals.

'We are collecting all the necessary documentation to support our appeal. We are standing by our athletes. They have already served a three-month ban imposed by the Indonesian Anti-Doping Agency [LADI],' PRSI chairman Sandiaga Uno told journalists on Monday.

He added that based on their consultation with legal advisers, two institutions were prohibited from imposing sanctions on an athlete for the same violation.

Indra and Guntur used a performance-enhancing substance called Methylhexaneamine, traces of which are contained in the supplement drink, Jack3D, during last year's Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games in Incheon, South Korea.

LADI imposed a three-month ban on the two athletes, from August to November 2013, which prevented them from taking part in the 2013 Islamic Solidarity Games in Palembang in October.

However, FINA only issued its decision in March this year, banning Indra and Guntur for two years, retroactive from July 2013 and running through July 2015, which, if upheld, will prevent Indra's participation in the upcoming Asian Games in South Korea in September.
