Models rock the runway in casual and party hair styles
As jeans are one of the most widely worn items all over the world, denim has evolved over time.
First designed as work pants for gold miners of the 1849 California gold rush, denim has now become a must-have fashion item for everyone.
But today, denim is not only used in outfits as hairstylists have started to use it to complement hair looks.
Hair care and hair-coloring products producer Matrix has come up with the latest hair-coloring styles that are inspired by denim, called the Matrix Denim Code.
'Matrix has adapted the DNA of denim, like its cutting technique and details, into the latest hairstyles,' said Satria Bakti, Matrix's business unit manager at PT. L'Oréal Indonesia.
However, the colors are not blue.
Matrix offers Stone Washed, Gold Flare, Tri-Dye and Washed Silver styles as hair-coloring trends for this year.
The Stone Washed technique is inspired by denim's character of color saturation. The style is used to give a striking saturation level of red.
Hairstylist Gary Lee from Singapore explained during a press conference at Balai Kartini in South Jakarta that the Stone Washed style was ideal for those who wanted to dye their hair dark red.
'The contrast level between the dark and the bright colors can be clearly seen by using this style,' he said.
While the Gold Flare style is suitable for women and men who want to have stylish light brown hair.
Lee said this style would give a more rounded look to women with square-shaped faces because the hair that fell around the cheeks was dyed a lighter color than that at the crown.
'This style can also make your face look fresh because of the color,' he said.
The third coloring style is Tri-Dye, which applies three contrasting colors but can blend perfectly well. Lee said this style was similar to the ombré hair look where the color would fade from dark to light, or the other way around.
'The roots are dark, and then it gradually becomes lighter in the middle and way lighter toward the ends,' he said.
The last coloring style is Washed Silver, which is inspired by the coloring technique of modern jeans that have silver yarns. The style can be applied for those who have a simple hair cut but who still want to look stylish by showing their strong character.
Hairdresser Charlie Luciano from Hong Kong presented an example of Washed Silver on a male model whose hair had been dyed a bluish-gray color.
'We make one braid in the hair part to represent a jeans zip while the hair color is used to represent faded jeans,' Luciano said.
All hair-coloring styles use Matrix's latest series of Wonder Colors that include Wonder Brown, Wonder Light and Wonder Red, which have been acknowledged by hairdressers.
Local renowned hair dresser Rudy Hadisuwarno said Wonder Brown contained an Inner Lipid Complex that could strengthen and protect hair during the coloring process.
Lee also said that Wonder Brown could cover 50 percent of gray hair perfectly while Wonder Light was proven to be effective in lightening the color tone by up to four levels without having to bleach the hair.
During the hair show, all models presented Matrix's latest hair-coloring techniques, which were combined with denim-inspired hairstyles from Rudy, Lee, Luciano, Gunawan Hadisuwarno and Andri Tanzil.
All the hair dressers also got the chance to briefly demonstrate their cutting and styling skills onstage.
Throughout the show, the models, mostly dressed in denim, strutted down the catwalk in casual and party hair styles.
They appeared with pumped-up ponytails with little braided locks at the back, spiked pixies, short side-swept, classic loose wavy hair, Beyonce-like big, curly hair and glamorous updo hairstyles.
