he Jakarta Culture and Tourism Agency has begun carrying out restoration work on the Dirgantara monument ' popularly known as the Pancoran statue ' in Pancoran, South Jakarta, while the Diponegoro statue in Menteng, Central Jakarta, is set to get refurbished soon.
Agency conservation center head Eny Prihantini said work commenced on Aug. 10 and would run through Sept. 19 for the Pancoran statue, and that the Diponegoro statue would be worked on from Sept. 17 until Oct. 2.
She said both monuments needed to be restored as they were in 'poor condition'.
'The Pancoran statue has never been cleaned since it was erected in 1964. The statue is dirty and it has become fragile. Meanwhile, the Diponegoro statue was only cleaned once in 2007 since it was completed in 1965,' beritajakarta.com quoted her as saying at City Hall on Wednesday.
The city administration has recently cleaned the National Monument (Monas) in Central Jakarta and it is carrying out a renovation project in Old Town, West Jakarta.
