Kopaja bus operators plan to procure 150 new buses as part of the city'€™s pilot program for revitalizing transportation.

Organization of Land Transportation Owners (Organda) head Shafruhan Sinungan said operators had agreed to procure 150 buses at a cost of Rp 487 million (US$38,473) per unit to replace old buses, many of which have been deemed substandard and unsafe.

Separately, Governor Basuki '€œAhok'€ Tjahaja Purnama said after operators of Kopaja S66 joined the revitalization program, the city would welcome the participation of Kopaja S602 operators, who travel a route from Ragunan in South Jakarta to the National Monument (Monas) in Central Jakarta.

Ahok added that private firms would be in charge of developing the bus stops. In return, he said, they would be free to advertise at the stops.

After completion, Ahok said passengers would be restricted to boarding and disembarking at the designated stop rather than in the ad hoc manner passengers currently get on and off the buses. (***)
