Kyo Hayanto Agusta
Author and filmmaker Djenar Maesa Ayu is now in post-production for her latest film, Nay.
The film, which takes its title from Djenar's nickname, is essentially a monologue delivered by Sha Ine Febriyanti. For almost 90 percent of the film's 80-minute run time, Sha Ine's character sits in a car ' stuck in traffic ' while talking on the phone.
'We've relied on crowdfunding for each phase of the production,' Djenar said. 'I feel uneasy to keep asking for donations because not everyone understands that film production has several steps.
'As soon as we get a fresh round of donations, we will release the film,' she said.
Djenar, who worked briefly as a television presenter, was nominated for the Khatulistiwa Literary Awards for her short story compilation Mereka Bilang, Saya Monyet! (They say I'm a Monkey), in 2002, as well as for her novel Jangan Main-main (dengan Kelaminmu) [Don't Play (with your Genitals)] in 2004.
The 42-year-old, who also acts and has appeared in several Indonesian films, debuted as film director in 2008, adapting Mereka Bilang for the screen.
Djenar says she's no gadget freak. 'I use my communication gadgets for their main function: communicating. And in my field of work, they are immensely helpful.'
Sony Xperia Z2
My smartphone turned out to be very useful during the pre-production and production of Nay.
As we got our funds from donors through the crowdfunding site wujudkan.com, I used it to send our gratitude to each of them and updated them with still photos of the scenes I took with my phone and I posted to social media platforms, such as Instagram.
The phone is also water-resistant and therefore can be used for underwater photos!
MacBook Pro
I mainly use my laptop to write. I always carry it around. But as now I'm producing a film, I use it to evaluate the film for editing ' but no, I don't know how to edit it from my laptop.
Blood pressure monitor
Until seven months ago, I was
attached to my 'makeup case' where I kept a blood pressure monitor. I
have a tendency of having high blood pressure. I previously tried to
avoid consuming medicine and checked on my condition with the meter.
Later,
I realized that the anxiety coming from frequent checking triggered my
blood pressure to rise. There is no other way for me now but to take my
medicine regularly.
