Former East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) governor Aloysius Benedictus 'Ben' Mboi passed away due to illness in Jakarta on early Tuesday at the age of 80.
Ben Mboi, who served as NTT governor from 1978 to 1988, was reported to have suffered from complications.
'Dr. Ben Mboi passed away at 12:30 a.m.,' the Health Ministry's head at the public communication center, Murti Utami, told journalists via text message in Jakarta on Tuesday.
The husband of former Health Minister Nafsiah Mboi pursued a career in the military and in medicine, during which he was involved in a military operation code named 'Operasi Trikora' (Operation Trikora) in Papua.
Ben Mboi's body was laid to rest at his home on Jl. Muhasyim VII No. 37, Cilandak, South Jakarta, and will be buried at the Kalibata Heroes Cemetery, South Jakarta.
Ben Mboi was born in Ruteng, West Manggarai, Flores, East Nusa Tenggara, on May 22, 1935. He has three children from his marriage to Nafsiah Mboi. (ebf)
