President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo is set to reshuffle six ministers on Wednesday at around 1 p.m. at the Presidential Palace, according to a report by kompas.com.
Jokowi and Vice President Jusuf Kalla held a private meeting on Tuesday at the palace to discuss the reshuffling of Kabinet Kerja (the Working Cabinet), among other matters.
According to kompas.com, Jusuf Kalla has confirmed the reports, saying that those set to be reshuffled included coordinating ministers, ministers and other minister-level officials.
"Just wait for their names from the President himself on Wednesday," said Kalla.
Prior to the private meeting between Jokowi and Kalla on Tuesday, they also had a meeting with several ministers including Trade Minister Rachmat Gobel; Coordinating Economic Minister Sofyan Djalil; Coordinating Political, Legal and Security Affairs Minister Tedjo Edhy Purdijatno; National Development Planning Minister Andrinof Chaniago; and Cabinet Secretary Andi Widjajanto.
After the meeting, Gobel said that the government had discussed cattle imports policy, an issue that will soon be handed to state-owned logistics agency Bulog, which will be tasked with ending the spike in beef prices that recently reached Rp 120,000 (US$8.70) per kilogram.
The issue of the Cabinet reshuffle has been surrounding the Jokowi-Kalla administration for six months after several ministers were reportedly considered to be underperforming. Jokowi, on several occasions, has said that he has his own work-performance parameters to judge his Kabinet Kerja ministers by. (kes)(+++)
