lobal Sevilla School in West Jakarta has suspended one of its teachers and a pool lifeguard after an 8-year-old student drowned in the international school's swimming pool.
The private school's director, Robertus Budi Setiono, said the two employees had been temporarily suspended while they were investigated by the West Jakarta Police's women and child protection unit.
'They're not working for the time being. We've handed them over to the police,' Robertus was quoted by kompas.com as saying on Saturday.
During a swimming lesson attended by around 20 students on Thursday morning at the school in Kembangan, a member of staff spotted Gabriella Sherill unconscious at the bottom of pool.
The teacher immediately pulled Gabriella out of the water. She was then rushed to Puri Indah Hospital in West Jakarta, where she was declared dead.
