President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo is set to confirm the price of subsidized Premium gasoline on Monday, be it a new lower price or unchanged.

"There is a possibility [of a lower price]; it is still being calculated and the report will be submitted to me on Monday. Whether [the price] is lowered or unchanged, we will make the announcement," said Jokowi on Friday as quoted by Antara news agency.

The President added that it had been confirmed that the price of gasoline would not be raised until December and he had stressed to [the ministries] the importance of [more effectively] suppressing prices.

On Thursday, the President held a closed meeting with the ministries regarding the price of gasoline.

"[State-owned oil and gas company] Pertamina should recalculate. Is it still possible to decrease the [price of] Premium, even just a little bit?" said Jokowi.

The Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry has recently announced a decision to hold the price of Premium and Solar (diesel) for the next three months.

In the last six months, the price of Premium has stayed the same at Rp 7,400 (51 US cents) per liter in Java, Madura and Bali, and Rp 7,300 per liter in other regions.

Meanwhile, the price of subsidized Solar is Rp 6,900 per liter. (kes)(++++)
