Rian Sukmawan - JP/Wendra Ajistyatama

Former national shuttler Rian Sukmawan died on Saturday after participating in a friendly badminton match in Semarang, Central Java. He was 30.

According to Rendra Wijaya, the deceased'€™s former men'€™s doubles partner, Rian reportedly admitted to fatigue after taking part in the match.

'€œComing out of the stadium after the match, he said he was tired. Then I was informed that Rian had fallen unconscious. Later I knew he had passed away,'€ Rendra said Sunday as quoted by Antara news agency.

The late Rian was buried in Semarang on Sunday. He is survived by a wife and a child.

Rian was among the world'€™s top 15 at the end of 2010 along with Yonatan Suryatama Dasuki. He changed partners a few times, pairing up with several top players including Markis Kido and Rendra Wijaya, with whom he played his last competitive match in 2014.

After leaving the national squad, Rian played professionally representing PB Djarum club.
