ewly appointed Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi has voiced an intention to continue with transformations in the transportation sector as initiated by his predecessor, Ignasius Jonan.

In the ministerial handover ceremony conducted at the minister's office in Central Jakarta on Thursday, Budi said replacing Jonan was a big challenge, considering the latter's reputation and achievements as the chief in the transportation sector for the past 20 months.

"Jonan is an incredible mentor and I will consult him for directions and input on what needs to be done in this sector," Budi said at the event.

As the new minister, he pointed out that the transportation sector must keep up with development as well as people's needs. Therefore, he believed transportation services must be enhanced to address the challenges.

On the same occasion, Jonan congratulated Budi as well as reminded him that it took shared commitment with other stakeholders in order for the ministry to keep up with developments in the transportation industry.

Budi previously served as the president director of state airport operator PT Angkasa Pura II. President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo inaugurated Budi along with other eight new faces in the second Cabinet reshuffle during his presidency on Wednesday, which was aimed at strengthening the economy. (rin)
