ixed doubles coach Richard Mainaky has given his assurances that gold medalist Liliyana “Butet” Natsir, 30, is still up to the task of the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta and Palembang following Liliyana’s statement that Rio would be her last Olympic Games.

“In my judgment, Liliyana is still [giving] her best performance. Therefore she is up to the task,” Richard told a press conference on Wednesday at the Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI) training center in Cipayung, East Jakarta.

Liliyana, one of Indonesia’s leading shuttlers, previously mentioned that Rio was likely to be her last Olympics. However, despite the statement, Liliyana also mentioned that Tontowi Ahmad, 29, her partner in the mixed doubles, frequently asked her to continue their journey as a mixed doubles pair.

As for whether she would be included in the upcoming Asian Games, Liliyana said it was up to her coach to decide. She added that as an athlete, her job was to fully comply with training sessions, as tasked by her coach.

She also said she would talk with her family before reaching a decision. (evi)
