ales agents are still the main contributors to life insurance sales in the first half of 2016 , providing Rp 30.79 trillion (US$2.37 billion) in new premiums  or 41.27 percent of  Rp 74.61 trillion in total new premiums booked by the life insurers in the first half of this year.

"Despite the use of more advanced marketing technology in the upcoming years, the existence of agents is still important as selling insurance requires a 'personal touch'," Indonesian Life Insurance Association (AAJI) chairman Hendrisman Rahim said in a press conference in Jakarta on Monday.

AAJI reported Monday that bancassurance or insurance held in cooperation with banks, was in second place, contributing Rp 28.68 trillion to new premiums or 38.44 percent to the total, followed by telemarketing that contributed Rp 1.89 trillion (2.53 percent) and other methods contributed Rp 13.25 trillion (17.76 percent shares).

Although the sales agents contributed the largest share of the new premium income, its growth slowed to 2.02 percent compared to 30.18 percent growth in the first half of 2015. Bancassurance achieved 15.32 percent growth and telemarketing suffered 68.76 percent decline. (bbn)
