fter diving in Bunaken National Marine Park in North Sulawesi, a tourist from Switzerland, identified as Bruno Ernst Durrer, 62, reportedly begun to complain of illness and later died upon reaching the hospital.
North Sulawesi Police spokesperson Sr. Comr. Ibrahim Tompo said Tuesday Durrer was staying at the Siladen Resort in the Bunaken marine park area.
Tompo said the tourist, who was a doctor, finished diving at 11:20 a.m. local time Monday. “After surfacing to the boat, he began complaining that he did not feel well. Others took him to his hotel but his condition did not improve. So they took him to Siloam Manado Hospital,” Tompo said.
Ibrahim said upon arriving at the hospital at 1:10 p.m. he had already passed away. Reportedly, his face, lips, arms, and legs had gone blue.
Hospital doctors found no indication of trauma to his body. They said the victim had difficulty in breathing and heart failure had led to his death, Tompo said.
"The examination was conducted by Dr. Harley Limantika, who found no indication of inflicted trauma,” he said.
Tompo added that the victim’s widow had contacted the Swiss Embassy in Indonesia about her husband. (evi)
