fter an alleged bullying incident at Indonesia Islamic University (UII) in Yogyakarta, the mother of one of the supposed victims has reported the case to police.

Karanganyar Police chief Sr. Comr. Ade Safri Simanjuntak on Tuesday confirmed that the father of Syaits Asyam, 19, had filed a report. “We are investigating the case. We have questioned some witnesses and collected clues,” Ade said.

Syaits died at the Bethesda Hospital in Yogyakarta on Saturday after joining a freshman orientation event of UII’s climbing club from Jan. 13 to 20 on the slopes of Mount Lawu in Central Java. The incident claimed three lives.

Two other victims were Muhammad Fadli, who died on Friday, and Ilham Nurpadmi Listiadi, who succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday.

Ade said Syaits had once confided in his mother that he had been beaten by senior students. “We will follow up [the report],” Ade added.
