The water level at five sluice gates in Jakarta has forced the authorities to raise their status to alert level III.
This measure was taken following heavy downpours upstream in Bogor, West Java, causing the water levels at the five gates to reach between 150 and 825 centimeters.
Based on data from the Jakarta Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD), the five sluice gates are Manggarai, Karet, Angke Hulu, Pasar Ikan and Sunter Hulu.
Jakarta Governor Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama said that by Thursday morning the water levels were receding as officials had been managing the flow of water at each sluice gate in the capital. (dmr)
