Christopher Rungkat, Indonesia’s top tennis player, will go to China to participate in a series of ATP Challenger tournaments as part of his effort to qualify for the 2017 Wimbledon Grand Slam in July.
In China, Christopher, ranked 180th in the world in men’s doubles, will visit Zhuhai, Shenzhen and Quanzhou to compete in three tournaments. He will be partnered with 185th-ranked Ruan Roelofse of South Africa.
“The plan is to directly fly to Shenzen on Tuesday, or to take a short visit to Anning, which hosts a Men’s Future tournament, for a quick training session,” said Christopher in a press release.
The 27-year-old has so far earned 470 points. He needs 200 more points to reach the world’s 120th-rank, which would qualify him to compete in men’s doubles at Wimbledon, where he would likely partner with Jeevan Neduncheziyan of India.
Winning in the Zhuhai or Quanzhou events would earn Christopher 80 points, while the Shenzhen tournament offers 90 points.
Christopher and Neduncheziyan had strong outings in the previous three tournaments in Japan and the United States as they reached the final rounds.
