Security authorities have discovered 4 kilograms of shabu-shabu (crystal methamphetamine) inside a portable air conditioner at the Nusantara Pura Pelni Port passenger terminal in Tanjung Priok, North Jakarta.
Tanjung Priok Port Police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Roberthus Yohanes De Deo said on Thursday a preliminary investigation suggested the drugs were smuggled in a ship sailing from Kijang, Riau Islands.
The smuggling attempt was discovered after authorities detected something suspicious in the portable air conditioner during an X-ray examination.
“We are investigating [the finding] because we found the drugs during an X-ray check. We have secured the evidence and are searching for those responsible for the drug smuggling attempt,” Roberthus said as quoted by kompas.com.
He said the suspects would be charged under articles 362 and 363 of the Criminal Code and the 2009 Narcotics Law, which carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison. (idb/ebf)
