View all search resultsn artist will grant Jakarta pieces of Germany’s historic Berlin Wall for the park in Kalijodo in North Jakarta, says Jakarta Governor Djarot Saiful Hidayat.
“He wants to donate pieces of the Berlin Wall to the park as a symbol of peace,” he said as quoted by kompas.com on Wednesday.
He did not, however, reveal the artist’s identity.
The pieces, which will be handed over on Oct. 5, are expected to be placed at several points in the park.
“There are three or four pieces that he [the artist] has kept for 20 years. They will be spread over the park in Kalijodo,” he said, adding that with the pieces he hoped the park would become a symbol of peace.
The Berlin Wall, which divided then East Germany and West Germany, collapsed in 1989 marking the end of the Cold War era that divided capitalist West and communist East for 40 years. (agn)
