Jakarta Governor Djarot Saiful Hidayat inaugurated two public hospitals and 18 community health centers (Puskesmas) on Wednesday.
Two public hospitals were established in Kebayoran Baru and Jati Padang, South Jakarta, while the 18 Puskesmas had been built in five municipalities and Thousand Islands regency.
Djarot said the development of the facilities, which used Rp 256.9 billion (US$19 million) of the city budget, was hoped to be followed by the improvement of health services.
“With the addition of inpatient facilities, we hope no patients are left underserved,” Djarot said on Wednesday as quoted by tempo.co.
He said the development of the health facilities was included in the 2013-2017 mid-term regional development plan proposed by then Jakarta governor Joko “Jokowi” Widodo and then deputy governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama after being elected in 2012.
“I just fulfilled what had been promised by Pak Jokowi and Pak Ahok in 2012. All promises they made should be fulfilled,” Djarot said.
Meanwhile, Djarot is set to hand over the baton to Jakarta governor-elect Anies Baswedan and deputy governor-elect Sandiaga Uno on Oct. 16.
