ommuter train operator PT Kereta Commuter Indonesia (KCI) plans to operate more trains this year in an attempt to boost the number of passengers to 320 million from the 315.81 million recorded in 2017.
The commuter line transported 292.34 million passengers in 2016.
PT KCI president director Muhammad Fadhila said in Jakarta on Thursday that his company would operate trains with more cars to increase the capacity of passengers on every trip.
“The objective is to boost the number of passengers,” said Fadhil as reported by tribunnews.com.
He said PT KCI, a subsidiary of state-owned railway operator PT Kereta Api Indonesia, planned to operate 26 trains with 12 cars each, 43 trains with 10 cars each and the number of trains with eight cars would be reduced to 22.
He did not explain the current composition of the trains being operated.
He said his company would also install 200 more vending machines and 200 entrance gates in many stations across Greater Jakarta to improve services to its passengers.
In the last two years, he added, the number of commuter line passengers had increased by 58 million, or 22.6 percent more than in 2014. (bbn)
