For those who are currently learning to speak German and others who love German literature, the Goethe-Institut Jakarta has recently launched the second edition of its book club, the GoetheLeseClub 2018 (GLC 2018), after its successful inauguration last year.
To join the book club, you must borrow three books from the Goethe-Institut Library in three different categories – the novel, short story anthology or graphic novel. You can either borrow a physical book or an e-book from the library’s online catalog. The titles available for the program will be listed on the Goethe-Institut website on Feb. 15.
After reading the three books, upload your review of each title to the online catalog. The review will preferably be written in German, but it can also be written in Indonesian. Each review should consist of a short synopsis of the books you have read, as well as your own interpretation or opinion about its content. All participants who have uploaded their reviews will be invited to a gathering and dining event on June 2.
To participate in the GoetheLeseClub 2018, you must be able to speak German. Go to MeinGoethe.de to sign up for an account, and then register for the book club through the website’s GLC 2018 page. Once you have done this, fill out a form at the Goethe-Institut Jakarta Library to obtain your library card.
Registration is open from Jan. 19 to May 1. You can read the books and upload your reviews from Feb. 15 through May 26. The offline gathering event on June 2 will conclude the book club program.
