It has been 30 years since Ruth Sahanaya made her debut in the music industry, during which time she has released 17 successful albums.

Nevertheless, the pop diva has decided to take her career in a new direction. Ruth has decided to try her hand at making jazz music with her new album entitled RINDUKU (My Longing), featuring two infamous jazz musicians, Ria Prawiro and Giro Lohanda.

“When I was still in Bandung [West Java], I used to sing jazz songs in many pubs. But then, in 1986, I got an offer from Aquarius Music to produce a solo album,” Ruth said as quoted by Kapanlagi.com.

“It was quite hard during the 1980s to become a jazz singer because pop music was on the rise. I had to follow the market in order to have a promising career,” she added.

However, Ruth added she believed nowadays people listened to a wider variety of music genres.
