he Tangerang Public Order Agency (Satpol PP) in Banten has arrested an elementary school student and a junior high school student, who were both intoxicated at the time, for allegedly extorting money from truck drivers in Tanah Tinggi central market.
“The suspects admitted they wouldn’t dare commit extortion while sober,” a top official at the agency, Gufron Falfeli, said Friday, adding that the suspects used the money to buy alcoholic beverages and drugs.
The pair were arrested on Thursday along with five other parking attendants, who had committed similar crimes.
Gufron said a Satpol PP officer had stalked the suspects’ movements by going undercover as a member of the public. The suspects, who had been drinking alcohol, were arrested while in a state of inebriation.
The circulation of alcoholic beverages was still rampant in the area despite the agency’s attempt to stamp it out, Gufron said. Therefore, he had asked residents to help by reporting to the authorities if they find any alcohol on sale.
“We need the public to help us stop alcohol circulating in the city. So please do not hesitate to make reports to us so we can follow them up,” he said, as quoted by wartakota.tribunnews.com. (vny)
