ersonnel of the National Police’s Densus 88 counterterrorism squad have arrested a man in Central Java for alleged involvement in terrorist acts.
Eko Purwanto was arrested in front of the entrance gate of Nawangsari village, Weleri district, Kendal regency, Central Java, at 4:15 a.m. on Monday.
“After the arrest, he had been taken straight to the National Police headquarters,” Weleri Police chief Adj.Comr. Abdullah Umar said on Tuesday.
The Densus 88 personnel searched a rented house Eko currently inhabits with his wife and another house they once lived in. Eko’s wife, Wahyu Riyanti, 44, said she was confused when her husband did not return home after bringing food for sahur (predawn meal) to their children, who lived in a separate place.
Riyanti said she had been informed by Densus personnel that they had arrested Eko. During the raid, the personnel only confiscated his mobile phone.
Riyanti said her husband was widely known by their neighbors as a friendly figure. Eko participated actively in various activities in the village, including community watch patrols. Riyanti added that her husband had never acted strangely, as if he was participating in secret activities. (ebf)
