Taekwondoin Defia Rosmaniar has won Indonesia's first gold medal at the Asian Games.
ndonesia taekwondoin Defia Rosmaniar won the country's first gold medal at the Asian Games, coming out on top in the women's individual Poomsae on Sunday at the Jakarta Convention Center, Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) sports complex, before an audience of 1,000, including President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo.
Defia, 23, who won a gold medal in the same category at the Asian Taekwondo Poomsae Championships in Vietnam in May, scored 8.690 points in the final, slightly higher than the 8.470 scored by Marjan Salahsouri of Iran.
In the semifinals, Defia, who made her Asian Games debut this year, outclassed South Korean favorite Yun Ji-hye, who failed to perfectly land her last move.
Korean martial art form Poomsae, which made its Games debut this year, is judged based on practitioners' demonstration of offensive and defensive moves. (yan)
