T

he Transportation Ministry is preparing a regulation on ride-hailing apps after the Supreme Court’s ordered the ministry to revoke Ministerial Regulation No. 108/2017 on non-route public transportation services.

The regulation is a revised version of Regulation No. 26/2017, which was also annulled by the Supreme Court in response to complaints from drivers and application providers.

The ministry's land transportation Director General Budi Setiyadi said the regulation in question would be split into two different regulations.

“The first regulation will cover the operation of specific rental vehicles, which are not online-based, and the service that is based online,” Budi said as reported by kontan.co.id on Thursday, adding that his office had almost finished the draft on a rental vehicle services regulation.

But, for the ride-hailing service regulation, he added, the ministry would wait for a detailed order from the Supreme Court before completing the draft.

He said the second regulation would deal with a number of issues like the relations between drivers and ride-hailing application providers.

Previously, the Supreme Court had ordered the transportation minister to revoke Regulation No. 108/2017 in response to complaints from several individuals. The court said the ministerial regulation was not in line with a number of articles in Law No. 20/2008 on micro, small and medium enterprises. (bbn)
