he Disciplinary Committee of the Soccer Association of Indonesia (PSSI) has decided to relocate Bandung-based Persib’s home matches to Kalimantan until the end of 2018 and bar fans to watch the remaining matches after a fan of Persija Jakarta Haringga Sirla was mobbed to death by Persib’s Vikings.
The federation also bars Persib fans to watch the club’s future games in Bandung in mid-2019 season.
The decision was taken following a meeting on Oct. 1 in Jakarta.
The 2018 Go-Jek Liga 1 competition, however, will resume on Oct. 5 after being suspended for a week.
The disciplinary committee also banned the Vikings from attending Persib matches until mid-2019 season.
The Persib match organizing committee was banned from joining any soccer organizing committee for two years, fined Rp 100 million (US$6,666) while Persib supporters were obliged to fight against racism, provocation and any insulting comments on jerseys, posters and other paraphernalia.
All eight suspects involved in the death of 23-year-old Haringga were banned from watching soccer matches in Indonesia for life.
Haringga was beaten to death by Persib supporters minutes before a Persib vs Persija match at Gelora Bandung Lautan Api Stadium on Sunday Sept. 23.
Persib and Persija are bitter rivals and their fans have often clashed resulting in injuries and deaths.
The hashtag #RIPHaringga was the top trending topic on Twitter in Indonesia on Monday morning, as netizens expressed their anger over Haringga’s death. (yan)
