Police officer chief Brig. Matheus was found dead on Monday at Mutiara Cemetery in Depok, West Java.

Depok Police spokesman Second Insp. I Made Budi said Matheus was a member of the Pancoran Mas Police and had been deployed with the National Police’s Densus 88 antiterror squad.

“He was our officer. He had been tasked with working in the antiterror squad,” he said as quoted by tribunnews.com.

Made added that Matheus, who was safeguarding New Year’s Eve celebrations, was found with a severe head wound. His body was discovered by a local, who rushed him to Bhakti Yuda Hospital.

“After trying to revive Matheus, the doctors eventually declared him dead. His body was then taken to Kramat Jati Police Hospital,” Made said.

The man who first discovered Matheus’ body said he saw a firearm, mobile phone and motorcycle on the scene. (vla)
