T

he Jakarta administration plans to station police officers at some of its pedestrian bridge elevators to help in emergency situations as well as to prevent vandalism.

"If not guarded, we're afraid there will be unwanted occurrences," Imam Adi Nugroho of Bina Marga road agency told tempo.co on Monday.

Imam said officers would be stationed at Jelambar Bridge in West Jakarta and Sumarno Bridge in East Jakarta, adding that more officers might be deployed when needed.

He said the officers were currently being trained and they would be ready when the elevators began operating.

The elevators at the two locations started being built on June 6, and were completed last month. (fac)
