Police say that the victim was walking home when a man suddenly appeared and stabbed her fatally.
student was found dead with a stab wound on Tuesday in the narrow lane of a residential neighborhood on Jl. Riau in East Bogor district, West Java.
East Bogor Police chief Comr. Masudi Widodo identified the victim as 18-year-old Andriana Yubelia Noven Cahya Rejeki, a 12th-grade fashion student at Baranangsiang vocational school.
Masudi said the incident occurred at around 3.55 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon, when the victim, still in her school uniform, was walking along an alley past a grand mosque toward her boarding house on Jl. Riau.
"Judging from the CCTV footage, the victim appeared to be coming home from school. A man suddenly appeared, stabbed her and then fled toward Jl. Raya Pajajaran," said local resident Deki as quoted by kompas.com
Bogor Police spokesperson Adj. Comr. Yuni Astuti said that residents of the area found the victim at around 4 p.m., laying facedown in a pool of blood. Later examination discovered a stab wound 3 centimeters long and 22 cm deep in the left-hand side of the victim's chest.
Upon receiving the reports from nearby residents in the area, which has a high crime rate, Bogor Mayor Bima Arya said he would tighten local security.
"We will maintain [local] order by coordinating with the heads of community units [RWs] and villages in installing street lights and managing vehicular access. The nearby [bus] terminal will also be monitored," said Bima.
The police are continuing with their investigation into identifying the killer. (mai)
